A video of a home in a “peaceful” yet “scary” graveyard setting has sparked discussion among viewers on TikTok.
The clip was posted from @cemeterycottage, the TikTok account of a woman who lives in a Victorian cemetery in the United Kingdom. The video has over 886,000 views since it was shared on October 23. A note overlaid on the video reads: “Walk to Tesco’s [a British grocery chain] with me on a frosty morning.” Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
The clip begins with a view of the graveyard from just behind a window, with a large tree set against a dark gray sky. The footage later captures a walk across snow-dusted cemetery grounds, featuring endless rows of tombstones. There are around 300,000 people buried at the cemetery, according to a later comment by the poster. “Would you live here?!” she asked in a caption shared with the post.
Homeowners across the United States are struggling with soaring housing costs. “Millions of potential homebuyers have been priced out of the market by elevated home prices and interest rates,” noted a 2024 report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University.
The report said that the home price growth was seen in 97 of the top 100 markets, with higher increases in the northeast and Midwest regions.
In a caption shared with the viral TikTok video, the poster wrote: “The graveyard is absolutely HUGE and half of it is old graves from 1800s.The ones by my house, as you can see, are more recent and have families visiting.
“I see lots of graveyards when I’m driving around that look overgrown and unkempt … we are really lucky here because the gravediggers keep it so nice,” the woman added.
The viral post has sparked debate among viewers on TikTok, with several feeling a mixture of fear and peacefulness about the setting.
User @cassw.xo posted, “that would freak me out sm [so much],” and @nathalyaa444 said, “hell no.”
TheSeaCookie, however, commented: “Would love to live in a cemetery.”
Bridie Leigh Thompson agreed, saying: “Omg [oh my God] this is stunning! So I’m not the only one who loves a stroll through a grave yard? I find it so therapeutic and love reading all the old head stones. So emotional x.”
Trickyvic wrote: “The peace & tranquillity of living in a cemetery sounds like bliss & it’s so beautiful.”
User @siennasmith.444 posted: “this is so peaceful yet so scary. i have spark opposite my house and if u keep walking through the park there’s a graveyard near it so it’s a bit away but it still feels too close.”
User dmbt13 commented: “This would absolutely terrify me, but looks so peaceful. Have you had anything scary happen in your house?”
“That looks terrifying but also cozy idk [I don’t know] why?” added @aish18926.
